The Hershey Bears announced today that they have signed defenseman Paul Geiger to an AHL contract for the upcoming season.

This will be the 24-year old’s 2nd full professional season. Last year, Geiger played 49 games with the Rochester Americans on his first AHL contract while also playing 2 games with the Elmira Jackals in the ECHL. Geiger played for Clarkson University in the NCAA for four years and was honored with the captaincy of the team for his junior and senior years of college. In his freshman year, he was put on the ECAC All-Rookie Team after scoring 12 points in 36 games. Overall, he recorded 51 points in 150 NCAA games. Right after college, he signed an ATO with the Albany Devils and played 9 games with the team. During that stint, he scored his first professional goal as well as assist. Standing at 6’3″ (and, naturally, bigger on skates), Geiger will bring some size to the Bears’ blueline by being the largest defenseman right out of the gate. With his leadership abilities, he will be able to bring some stability to the 16th ranked team in goals allowed in 2016-17.
