After two years in the Washington Capitals system, sniper Paul Carey has just signed a one-year deal with the New York Rangers. The deal will award him $650,000 in the NHL and $400,000 in the AHL. Perhaps the most lethal weapon on the offensive side for the Hershey Bears over the past two seasons, his departure will leave a hole in the forward crops.

Over the past two seasons, Carey has scored 86 points with the Bears in 99 games. Last season, the 28 year-old forward was a point-per-game player, putting up 55 points in 55 games including 24 goals. He was called up to the Washington Capitals for 10 games over the last two years and recorded 1 goal, his first ever NHL goal, with the team.

One of his most memorable games with the Bears was against the very team he will most likely be joining for the start of the season, the Hartford Wolf Pack. He scored 4 goals that game and many believe that he should’ve been credited with a 5th as his final shot went in before the final whistle sounded. For his heroics that night, he was awarded with the AHL Player of the Week honor.
