This was not the game the Philadelphia Flyers hoped to have.
After being down 4-1 heading into the third period, the Flyers scored three unanswered goals to tie the New York Islanders at four. But 28 seconds after Claude Giroux tied it, Mathew Barzal scored to put the Islanders in front for good.
Nolan Patrick scored twice and added an assist for the first three-point game of his career, while Giroux and Shayne Gostisbehere recorded two points each.

Sean Couturier was getting ready for a potential playoff-clinching game.
The boys were looking to clinch a playoff berth.
Couturier had an early chance, but Thomas Greiss stuck out his pad and made the save.
Couturier stayed busy and tripped Jordan Eberle, putting the Islanders on the power play…
…where Radko Gudas lost John Tavares. Tavares made him pay and opened the scoring.
Jordan Weal sauced the puck over to Valtteri Filppula for a great chance, but Greiss made a blocker save.
Couturier ran into Adam Pelech in the corner and shook him up, but no penalty was called.
Then the Flyers got it back.
Late in the period, Oskar Lindblom, Nolan Patrick, and Wayne Simmonds combined to tie the game!

The Flyers and Islanders were tied at 1 after the first period.
Early in the second, Jake Voracek went to the box for high-sticking.
Just as Voracek left the box, Anthony Beauvillier wristed a shot from the high slot that beat Petr Mrazek.
It didn’t get better for the Flyers. Tavares found a gap in the slot and poked his own rebound over Mrazek.
Right before Tavares scored, Travis Konecny was high-sticked, but there was no penalty.
Konecny got shoved into the boards dangerously by Johnny Boychuk and was shaken up.
Late in the period, Mathew Barzal went bar down.
The Islanders led 4-1 after the second period.
The Islanders took a cross-checking penalty early in the third period…
…and Nolan Patrick scored to give the Flyers life.
What an effort!
Was it the start of a comeback?
Just moments later, Konecny got hooked, and the Flyers had another chance on the power play.

Captain Claude tied the game with seven minutes left! The Flyers were looking good.
Then Mathew Barzal scored 28 seconds later to put the Islanders back in the lead.
The Flyers took a too many men penalty to give the Islanders a chance on the power play, but the penalty kill was strong.
Travis Konecny had some great looks in the final minute, but he couldn’t beat Greiss.
The Flyers lost to the Islanders, 5-4.
