For the second time in a month, Nicolas Aube-Kubel has been suspended two games for an illegal hit to the head. The play occurred during Saturday’s contest against the Providence Bruins.
Although there was no penalty called on the play, Aube-Kubel made significant contact with Adam Payeri’s head in the Lehigh Valley Phantoms zone midway through the second period. He has been suspended under the provisions AHL Rule 28.1 (supplementary discipline).
Aube-Kubel will miss the Phantoms’ games on Friday and Saturday, both at Providence.
Here’s the hit that led to his suspension. You’ll see Aube-Kubel skate from the slot to deliver the hit in the far corner.
