The Washington Capitals have signed 28-year old forward John Albert to one-year, two-way contract that will award him $650,000 in the NHL and $220,000 in the AHL. This signing occurs on a day that the Capitals have also signed Devante Smith-Pelly to a one-year deal.

John Albert is entering his 7th season of professional hockey. A career AHLer, he was with the Winnipeg Jets’ organization since his rookie professional year in 2011-12 up until this most recent season where he played with Karpat of the Finnish Liiga. He has consistently put up number worthy of a 2nd line forward with the St. John’s IceCaps and then Manitoba Moose, the two Jets affiliations he has played for. In 283 games in the AHL, he has scored 155 points.
Perhaps his best season was in 2013-14 where he scored 45 points in 63 games with the IceCaps while also getting his first and so far only stint of NHL action with the Jets. In 9 NHL games, he has scored 1 goal. He was also honored as the AHL Player of the Week in February of that season.
Last year, he had his first bit of international league experience when he played for Karpat. In 41 games, he scored 24 points and 2 more points in 2 playoff games. He played one game in the Champions Hockey League, scoring 1 goal in that game.
Albert will most likely be playing with the Bears in the 2017-18 season.
