After surviving numerous qualifier rounds and the semi-finals, Jessica Mihalczo and Raelie Mulvey will represent Klein College of Media and Communication in the Washington Media Scholars Case Competition final round.

The Washington Media Scholars Case Competition is where teams of two, from universities across the country, prepare and submit strategic media plans based on a hypothetical situation. For this competition, teams had to create a media plan for a minor league baseball team.

However, only six teams were selected to compete in the finals, where they will have the opportunity to network with major media organizations and present their media plan to a panel of judges in Washington, D.C. The winning team will receive the National Excellence in Media Award and $16,000 in scholarships.

Mihalczo said that she feels confident in her plan because of how well her advertising professor, Alison Ebbecke, taught the media strategy classes.

“I definitely think the media planning program at Temple has really set us up for success in this competition,” Mihalczo said. “I think me and Rae are a good team. We’ll go up with confidence and try our best.”

Mulvey said that marketing a baseball team is more complex than marketing a normal product, which forced the groups in the competition to think outside the box.

“Having to think about what baseball is like, what sports fans are like, how you get people involved, how do you sell the idea of a stadium rather than just selling a product, it definitely added a new dimension than just selling a product,” Mulvey said.

The winners of the competition will be announced at a banquet at the Newseum at the end of their week in Washington, D.C. on June 13.
