Philadelphia, PA – The Temple University Ice Hockey Club will play in the Philadelphia College Showcase, formerly the City 6 Tournament, this weekend to end the opening month of the season.

Last season, the Temple Owls finished third in the tournament after losing during the semifinals in overtime to the Villanova Icecats, 4-3. This time around, the Owls have an automatic bye to the semifinals and will play at 8:00 P.M. Saturday at Hatfield Ice.

Friday, the division two teams of St. Joe’s, Penn, Drexel and Millersville will play each other in the quarterfinal round. The winner of the St. Joe’s – Penn matchup will play the Icecats Saturday, and the winner of the Drexel – Millersville matchup will play the Owls. The losers of the quarterfinal round will play in a fifth-place final Saturday afternoon before the semifinals start.

If Temple wins Saturday, it will play in the Philadelphia College Showcase Final at 2:40 P.M. Sunday against the winner of Villanova’s semifinal. If Temple loses Saturday, it will play in the third-place final at noon Sunday.

“The Philadelphia College Showcase is marked on our calendar every year,” said club president Charles Ghizza. “We want to be known as the best team in this area, and it’s a great chance for us to play division rivals in non-league play. We have a good team and a good chance this weekend, but we’re going to take it game-by-game like it’s a normal week.”

Hatfield Ice is located at 350 County Line Road Colmar, PA.
